For playback technicians and artists who perform with computers, Oaktone today unveiled its new Oakboard Mini 2, a rugged, professional MIDI controller. Oakboard Mini 2 offers a straightforward and reliable way to launch music cues in a durable, compact form factor.
The new device’s many features include:
Aluminum Housing
Made of an ultra-durable, 2mm thick, die-cast aluminum alloy shell that’s 0.39″ (23mm) tall, Mini 2 is more compact than ever and ready to withstand the rigors of the road.
Backlit Buttons
See all critical controls on the darkest stage or backstage. No glow tape necessary. Using the MIDI clock from a DAW, the “PLAY” button can blink in time with the music.
Tactile Feedback
Beneath each soft-to-touch silicone button on Mini 2, users will find a satisfying, reliable switch so they’ll know when they’ve hit the “PLAY” button, cued the artist in or fired a sample.
USB-C Native
Oakboard Mini 2 comes standard with USB-C, allowing users to connect directly to any playback computer so they can leave all dongles and adapters at home.
Works with Live
Mini 2 integrates perfectly with Ableton Live-compatible cue-launching software such as Taz, AbleSet, and Setlist. Every Mini 2 includes a license to Taz Lite, the company’s cue-launching plugin for Ableton Live. Besides out-of-the-box compatibility with Ableton Live, many customers use their Oakboards with QLab, Logic, and various other workstations. This is thanks to Mini 2’s compatibility with any software that allows MIDI controller mapping.
