Ibanez has given its SR Prestige series a major overhaul for 2025, featuring a new proprietary Sonitech Preamp, all crafted by skilled luthiers in Japan
These new basses offer exceptional tonal versatility and playability, thanks to the Atlas neck profile and a groundbreaking new electronics package. Each bass is equipped with Nordstrand Big Single pickups under custom wooden covers, paired with Ibanez’s proprietary Sonitech preamp. This new, Japan-made preamp features a passive tone control and a transformative Hexa-mid system.
The Hexa-mid system provides six selectable mid-range frequencies, divided into two banks: a high bank (1kHz, 600Hz, 350Hz) and a low bank (850Hz, 450Hz, 250Hz). Players can switch between banks using a selector switch on the control cavity cover and select individual frequencies with a three-way mini-toggle on the front.
The Ibanez Bass R&D team, commented on the Hexa-mid system: “We wanted to combine the best of both worlds: the flexibility of sweepable mids and the precision of fixed mid-frequency controls. The Hexa-mid system delivers both, offering six selectable mid-range frequencies with clear control over each. This system significantly enhances the overall tonal response and character of the circuit.”
