This all-tube preamp and power amp has been developed in collaboration with Periphery guitarist Misha Mansoor
Designed to authentically produce the much-loved tones of the original invective.120, albeit at lower power levels, the compact but mighty invective.112 is the perfect pedal platform for endless sonic palettes in a compact, road warrior package.
Misha Mansoor is a progressive metal guitar influencer who’s a fan of digital emulation for its practicality. When working with Peavey on the original invective.120 tube amp, he required versatile options, easy switching, and superior high-gain tones to outperform digital technology. Peavey’s engineers embraced the challenge, applying these features to a smaller combo amp that’s more portable and ideal for practicing or recording.
The invective.112 has a rated power of 20 W (RMS) into 8 or 16 ohms. An impedance switch ensures proper power transfer and allows the amplifier to be used with a wider range of speaker cabinets. It also has a three-position power output switch controlling an attenuator, which allows the maximum output of the amp to be switched between 100%, 25% and 5% of rated power (20 W, 5 W, and 1 W). This enables the user to drive the power stage hard, therefore producing the characteristic power amp overdrive, but at a much lower volume. The Celestion Vintage 30 is a favorite among rock and metal guitarists like Mansoor, who need a speaker that can manage high gain and cutting-edge distortion, all while keeping midrange clarity and definition. Tube Status Indication (T.S.I.™) LEDs help check the status of the output.
The invective.112 comes equipped with two EL84 power tubes and three 12AX7/ECC83 preamp tubes that can provide warm, versatile tone. It’s a fitting selection by Mansoor who’s known for using a range of tones and techniques while incorporating crystal clear highs. The Clean channel has 3-band EQ and is designed to supply a consistently pristine tone regardless of the volume level. Additionally, Clean offers the choice to increase the gain through a footswitch, supplying a harder-driving sound. Similarly, the Lead channel has its own, dedicated 3-band EQ and a footswitchable Tight function, along with Adjustable Gate Threshold and Boost. Other footswitchable functions include a buffered effects Loop. Master Resonance and Presence controls allow for adjustment of the power amplifier’s damping factor, enabling the user to dial in their sound even more.
Peavey has also included its exclusive MSDI™ circuit to simulate the sound of a certain popular microphone placed approximately 3 inches from the loudspeaker cone. This allows the user to send an exact, studio-quality signal to the mixing console without acoustic spill from other instruments on stage. The mix engineer can activate Ground Lift to cut any hum, if detected.
With the USB Record Output, players can plug directly into their computer for silent home recording with their favorite program. The output is derived from the MSDI and sounds great right into the computer. The speaker Enable/Defeat switch effectively disconnects any connected speaker/cabinet, allowing the user to check their playing with the signal from either the MSDI output, USB output or headphone output, silently. Therefore, they can play or record at lower volume levels.
Weighing less than 40 pounds, the invective.112 combo semi-closed back cabinet uses high-grade birch plywood for light weight portability and a tight, chunky low end.
Whether players are looking for a versatile amp for home practice or studio recording, or they want to crank up just louder than the drummer, the Peavey invective .112 combo is a modern, feature-packed, and compact solution.
