Where’s the BASS???
The bass is here my friends, and it is glorious. Not your all-engulfing hyped-up sea of sonic mud, but rather, punchy and articulate bass that you can feel, hear, see and touch. Besides my subjective listening to all manor of music from rock to hip hop to jazz and my own compositions – I am a bassist, after all – I subjected the Pro X to a bit of science. Search YouTube for “bass test” and you will find many test tones to analyze the low end capability of your speakers. Listening to a test tone sweep starting at 20Hz, you will feel a powerful and smooth bass output from the Pro X all the way down to 20Hz. I compared the same test tone on my desktop speakers and various high-end headphones – Audeze MM100, Sennheiser HD 490 Pro – all with great results except for my studio monitors that had a steep cutoff at 50Hz.
What about the mids and highs?
They are also… present. These are truly well-rounded music reproduces that are comfortable and not fatiguing in the least. Nothing shrill, nothing harsh. Nothing boomy, nothing muddy. Something about the in-ear placement creates a spatial soundstage that is very realistic and enjoyable – almost like being there.
Comfortable – You say?
These earbuds are light, and small. With the proper fitting tip they are so comfortable that I found myslelf leaving them in well after the music ended. In my case, I found that the supplied tips were all too small. I wish they had an XL size. I did get good results with tips from another earbud set that I had lying around.
