Inspirational creative hub shines with improved audio and room tuning from Pro Audio Design
Alacran Group is a multimedia entertainment powerhouse that has built its success on a passionate, interdisciplinary approach to music, film, and live event production. In 2020, co-founders and sisters Alessandra and Giorgia Lo Savio cut the ribbon on Alacran Group Studios – a new production hub for the organization that serves as an inspirational creative space for its team of in-house artists and engineers, as well as its growing list of clientele which includes artists from Warner Chappell, Sony Music, Universal Music Group, Atlantic Records, and many more. Seeking to provide these artists and production teams with best-in-class audio performance to match their best-in-class rooms, Alacran Group Studios recently had installed a Augspurger® Duo 8-SUB 12-SXE3/3500 System for its main studio monitoring system.
A versatile sound profile
Alacran Group Studios was built from the ground-up to serve its diverse base of creatives with a facility that could easily shift roles between various mediums depending on the needs of each project. Given that, its sonic capabilities required a level of versatility beyond the typical recording studio. “Alacran Group Studios was designed as a creative hub for our artists where anything and everything would be possible,” states Alacran Group Studio Manager Franklin Socorro. “The space was created with acoustics and AV technology consulting and design firm WSDG with the brief that it should possess a level of production modularity that enables us to record, mix, host and film performances, and showcase live presentations all in the same facility.”

By the time Socorro joined the team in September of 2025, the studio was looking to upgrade its monitoring system to better reflect the taste and sensibilities of its core business. Coming from a rich background in hip-hop, reggaeton, and Latin music himself, Socorro spearheaded a campaign to invest in Augspurgers. “There were elements of our previous monitoring system that weren’t doing what we needed, so I was asked to make a recommendation as I was first coming in,” he explains. “I came from studios that used Augspurgers and I’ve always seen them as a piece of gear that is reassuring to clients in those genres – they know that sound, they know they can rely on it, and they know that a studio with them is a serious place.”

Tuned to perfection
Alacran Group Studios purchased a set of Duo 8-Sub12s for the space, powered by Augspurger’s proprietary SXE3500 power amplifiers. The system was chosen for its clarity and detail at low volume – essential for using it across different production styles. “The sound is incredibly clean and precise, which makes it easy to make decisions quickly on these various recording and audio production projects,” says Socorro. “You can get all that detail at low volume, but then at the same time you can really crank it up and get that low-end kick that is immediately inspiring to artists and gets them excited about what you’re making.”
Augspurger® Duo 8-SUB 12-SXE3/3500 System
2-way active design featuring CNC milled MDF cabinets housing a pair of 8” low/mid drivers with carbon fiber loaded paper cones and ferrite magnets, each capable of 300W RMS/600W program material, a 4” 99.98% pure beryllium HF compression driver on our solid maple MF “Mid Focus” horn mounted on a 1.5” thick MDF front baffle.
Each 3-way channel is powered by two SXE-3D 3-way networked amps (2U rack-mount), and the system includes four 15 ft. Klotz Speakon cables, and network switch and cables. (Note: amp rack and vent plates seen above not included).

System Output: 118 dB SPL @ 2m with program material, 120 dB w/SUB 12, 122 dB w/SUB 212 and SUB 18.

“What we had prior to this in the place of the Augspurgers wasn’t up to doing what we needed, and it’s a night and day difference. We immediately noticed how much better things sound and how much easier it was to work on them. It smoothed our entire production process and you can’t argue with that big ‘punch’ they have!”
“Something I had never done before but tried recently with the Duo 8s was leaving them on for the whole session without checking translation on other monitors,” he continues. “It was amazing how confident I could feel doing that, and when I did finally bring mixes elsewhere, it translated exactly how I wanted it to. The ability to trust those results was a major upgrade for us, and knowing that the team dialed them in specifically for our needs is a big part of that.”
Augspurger and Pro Audio Design President Dave Malekpour flew down to the studio personally for installation and final tuning. In addition to painstakingly color-matching the speakers to the room, he also ensured that the new setup would be the perfect fit for the long haul. “Dave came down and got them installed and tuned just ahead of the Winter Music Conference in March, which was ideal timing for us,” Socorro says. “A lot of international products and DJs got the opportunity to experience them first-hand during the conference and we found ourselves immediately bombarded with sessions after the fact. People noticed right away that we had them and that absolutely impacted our business and bookings.”
