Software developer Low End Candy has officially announced the release of Slingshot (v1.9.0), a reverse delay plug-in engineered to generate real-time echo swells that arrive before an audio transient rather than after.
Following the release of its sister plug-in Preverb (real-time reverse reverb), Slingshot eliminates the traditional time-consuming workaround of printing delay tails, reversing audio files manually, and aligning them on the DAW timeline.
Real-Time Reverse Delay Architecture & Modes
- ALIGNED vs. LIVE Operational Modes: In default ALIGNED mode, Slingshot reports its calculated lead-in time to the host DAW as latency, ensuring the reverse echo stack builds into the transient and lands precisely ahead of the note. LIVE mode provides zero-latency monitoring for real-time tracking.
- Integrated CAPTURE & PRINT Function: Users can arm the CAPTURE feature and play the audio once to auto-generate a trimmed WAV lead-in file padded to a whole bar, ready to drag onto the DAW timeline grid.
- Three Tap Processing Modes:
- REV (Reverse): Classic backwards-tape swell effect where each delay tap is reversed.
- FWD (Forward): Clean, non-reversed copies placed ahead of the sound.
- GRAIN (Granular): Generates a sprayed granular cloud building into the drop.
- Six Delay Characters: Features Clean, Tape, Analog, Diffuse, Ping-Pong, and Filtered modes. Each repeat cycles back through the character loop, making the start of the swell darker and narrower than the transient arrival point.
- Pitch, Formant & Transient Control: Includes independent or linked PITCH and FORMANT shifting, alongside a SNAP control that shapes transients exclusively on the wet signal path.
- Integrated Effects & Modulation: Includes onboard DRIVE, STEREO width, integrated ROOM/HALL/PLATE reverb, a dedicated DELAY FILTER, and an LFO with 8 assignable parameters.

“Every delay I owned echoed after the sound. I wanted them running the other way, stacking up into the drop so that the track announces what’s coming before it gets there. That’s the whole trick — anticipation you can hear… so I built Slingshot.”
— Beau McLeod (Bohemyth), Founder of Low End Candy
The MikesGig Takeaway
- Solves a Classic Studio Bottleneck: Eliminates the manual process of bouncing, reversing, and nudging delay tails on the timeline, allowing producers to hear reversed echo swells in real time as project arrangements change.
- Automatic DAW Latency Compensation: By reporting the calculated lead-in time directly to the DAW PDC (Plugin Delay Compensation), reverse delays align perfectly with the target transient without manual audio editing.
- Complementary Processing to Preverb: While Preverb generates a smooth, smeared reverse reverb wash into a drop, Slingshot delivers rhythmic, distinct reversed delay taps for dynamic anticipation.
