What Is KORG Module?
KORG Module is a high-performance mobile sound module app developed by KORG for iOS (iPad and iPhone).
It turns an Apple mobile device into a portable, studio-grade sound engine, allowing musicians to play high-quality acoustic pianos, electric pianos, organs, clavinets, synths, and drum kits using a connected MIDI controller or the touchscreen.
Key Features & Capability Highlights
- Seven Dedicated Sound Engines: Powered by KORG’s “Native Engine” derived from their hardware workstations. Includes dedicated modules for Acoustic Piano, Electric Piano, Organ, Clav, Multi (strings/brass/pads), Hybrid (analog/FM/synth), and Drums.
- AUv3 Plug-In Support: Functions as an Audio Units v3 virtual instrument inside iOS DAWs like Logic Pro for iPad, GarageBand, Cubasis, and AUM.
- Seamless DAW Integration with KORG Gadget 3: Integrates natively with KORG’s mobile music production app, unlocking individual instrument modules (like Salzburg piano and Montreal EP) inside KORG Gadget 3.
- Performance Set List & Player Functions: Includes set list organization, PDF/image sheet music viewer, and standard MIDI file playback for live stage performers.
- Expandable Sound Library: Offers downloadable add-on sound packs directly in the app store, including the Synthogy Ivory Mobile Grand, KORG TRITON Best Selection, M1 Best Selection, Scarbee EP-88M, and expansion drum kits like LA Studio Drums.
Who Is It For?
- Live Performing Keyboardists: Paired with a compact USB/Bluetooth MIDI keyboard (like a KORG microKEY or Keystage), it replaces heavy hardware sound modules on gigging rigs.
- Mobile Producers: Serves as a low-latency, high-quality sample and synth engine inside mobile DAWs.
- Practice & Rehearsal: Provides instant access to studio-quality piano and keyboard tones for practice sessions anywhere without needing a full computer setup.
The MikesGig Takeaway
- Turns Your iPad Into a Pro Synth: KORG Module gives mobile musicians access to workstation-class sample engines without carrying dedicated rack hardware or heavy laptops.
- Essential AUv3 Utility: Full AUv3 support makes it an indispensable tool for producers building complete track arrangements on iPad DAWs like Logic Pro.
